Three Mystical Forests in Ciamis, Full of Scary Stories

VIVA – Forest are the lungs of the world. Indonesia has various types of forests, such as tropical rainforests, mangroves, savanna forests, monsoon forests, and swamp forests. Unfortunately, the forest is also synonymous with mystical and scary stories. Especially, if the forest is rarely or prohibited for humans.

The Prohibition Forest in the Kuta Traditional Village, Karangpaningal Village, Tambaksari District has provisions that must be obeyed. The rules for entering the forbidden forest have been around for a long time.

This forest has an area of ????40 hectares. There are several things that must be obeyed, such as not wearing shoes, not wearing jewelry, not spitting, and not urinating. For those who do not obey the rules, the local people believe that it will bring danger. 

Then for women who are menstruating, they are not allowed to enter. Do not wear all black clothes and do not wear uniforms, especially wearing ranks. If people enter wearing a uniform of rank, their position can be dropped and this has happened to several people who violate it.

There is a certain time to enter the forbidden forest area, visitors only allowed to enter on Monday and Friday starting at 8 am.

Then all the contents of the forest should not be taken out or used. Like hundreds of years old wood, even though it has fallen, it must be left alone.

This forbidden forest is well-known as a sacred forest. So, it should not be polluted with things from the outside. There are many people ask for wealth in this forbidden forest.

2. Pasarean Forest, Nagarapageuh Panawangan

In the Pasarean Forest, Nagarapageuh Panawangan, there is a scary mythical story. For a long time ago, it was said that if someone takes a tree in the forest, a tiger will come and ask to be returned. But, if the tree is not returned, then the person can be affected by disaster.

This forest is located in Nagarapageuh Village, Panawangan District. This forest is also the tomb of one of the figures in the area, namely Prince Undakan KalanganSari. Now, the area has been designated as a protected forest and also a Cultural Conservation Site.

This forest also has stairs and paths for access to the forest. During its construction, local people did not destroy the forest. But, just build a road that was originally dirt into a road so that it is easy to pass. Local people do not dare to take advantage of the forest.

3. Gunung Dukuh Forest, Jagabaya Panawangan

For long ago, no one has dared to take trees and even twigs in the Mount Dukuh Forest in Jagabaya Village, Panawangan District. If there are people who take twigs for firewood, then they will be approached by a tiger.

This tiger asked them to return what they had taken from the forest. Believe it or not, this myth has been around for a long time and has been passed down from generation to generation.

With this myth, the forest of Mount Dukuh is still preserved. Trees that are hundreds of years old with large diameter tree trunks are still standing strong.
