VIVA – Currently, WhatsApp is planning to launch a new feature for users during video calls to safeguard their privacy. New feature can turn a user's face into an animated avatar during a video call. This new feature has been in development since March 2022.
Previously in 2017, WhatsApp had released their custom emoji in the beta version for Android and it seems, the development of the animation feature on this video call will be the successor.
Through this feature later, during a video call, users can choose to display their animated avatar instead of showing their real face.
According to the Wabetainfo website on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. The latest update will display a "Switch to Avatar" button on the screen when making a video call that allows users to switch to their avatar.
This button is also reported to have appeared on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android. However, for now, the button still doesn't work. It’s because this feature is still in development and has not yet reached the final stage.
In addition, to support this feature, WhatsApp will launch an “Avatar Editor”, a feature that allows users to customize their own avatar.
Besides being able to be used during video calls, in the future, the avatars that have been created in the Avatar Editor can also be sent via chat or WhatsApp groups.
The addition of this avatar animation feature is considered to provide a different video call experience to users. Whether it's a matter of privacy, or just a way to express themself.
However, until now, it’s still unclear whether the avatar animation that will be present will be in the form of 2D or 3D animation.
It is predicted that at the time of its first launch, this animated WhatsApp avatar will have a simple appearance with a limited set of options and customizations.
As quoted from the Androidpolice site, this feature can only be felt in the beta version for Android and it's still unclear when the final version of this feature will be released to the public.
