Sri Mulyani Directs Investment of South Korea to Green Industry

VIVA – The Indonesian Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani held a physical bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Choo Kyung-ho in Bali on July 15, 2022. During the meeting, South Korean businessmen are known to be interested in collaborating with Indonesia in the automotive, steel and industrial sectors, and chemical industry.

Sri Mulyani has welcomed the South Korean wishes for collaborating. She said investment and collaboration opportunities will be greater if they are transformed into green energy and green industry.

"The potential for economic cooperation is still wide open. For example, Indonesia is carrying out a green energy transformation which also provides great opportunities for South Korean companies, especially in the manufacturing sector such as the electric car industry," Sri Mulyani said in a statement, quoted on Monday, July 18, 2022.

The meeting was held by Sri Mulyani on the sidelines of the Third Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting (3rd FMCBG).

During the meeting, Choo Kyung-ho appreciated Indonesia's leadership as the G20 Presidency and has been able to maintain the integrity of the G20 in the midst of political tensions that have not subsided.

Not only that, Choo also appreciated the Indonesian Presidency for being able to achieve achievements from the Finance Track agenda.

"One of them is the establishment of a Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF)," Choo Kyung-ho said.

"The various global risks that haunt the world should not be exacerbated by the trend of protectionism from several countries," he added.

In this opportunity, Sri Mulyani feels grateful for Korea's support for the Indonesian Presidency. The Indonesian Minister of Finance also congratulated the new Korean Government, and believed it can open up many opportunities for stronger bilateral cooperation.

“Not only business-to-business, Indonesia and Korea also have close people-to-people relations. One of them is through K-pop culture that very popular in Indonesia. So, Korea has a good image in the eyes of the Indonesian population,” Sri Mulyani remarked.
