The Coordinator of the Expert Team for the Nusantara IKN Transition Team, Wicaksono Sarosa said that the planning and development of IKN is based on the principle of sustainable urban development, along with economic development in harmony with nature.

"For the waste issue, later at IKN 60 percent of all waste generated will be recycled in 2045," Wicaksono Sarosa said in an online discussion "Towards a Circular State Capital" that was monitored in Jakarta on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

On the same occasion, Chairman of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga said that the circular economy can be an important instrument in overcoming the challenges of the climate crisis and pollution.

"In the context of IKN, I think the key is sustainability. One of the absolute requirements is a circular economy," Danis Hidayat remarked.

For information, the implementation of the circular economy in IKN Nusantara has been mandated in Law Number 3 of 2022.

The circular economy is intended to replace the "take it away" approach of a linear economy, by seeking to extend the life cycle and value of products, raw materials and resources. So, they can be used for as long as possible while minimizing their social and environmental impacts.

The implementation of a circular economy in Indonesia can reduce 9 percent of CO2 emissions and save about three percent of water needs by 2030.

The implementation of a circular economy is expected to realize the IKN vision as a World-Class City for All.
