San Francisco City Government Joins Flying the Red and White Flag

VIVA – The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in San Francisco expressed his appreciation to the local city government who participated in celebrating Indonesia's Independence Day by raising the Red and White Flag and singing the national anthem, Indonesia Raya.

Indonesian Consul General in San Francisco, Prasetyo Hadi, thanked the San Francisco City Government for participating in commemorating the 77th Indonesian Independence Day.

"On behalf of the Indonesian state and nation, we would like to thank the San Francisco City Government for celebrating the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia and for being part of the festive series of activities to commemorate the independence of our beloved country this year," The Consul General (Consul) RI San Francisco Prasetyo Hadi said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday, August 19, 2022.

Prasetyo Hadi said that the commemoration of the anniversary of Indonesia's independence this time carried an important meaning because it was not only attended by several local government officials in San Francisco.

But also, several diplomatic corps, heads of representatives of foreign countries, and several working partners of the Consulate General in San Francisco from various circles, both the US Federal Government and business groups, academics, the Indonesian diaspora, artists, and figures from Asian community organizations.

During the flag-raising ceremony at the city hall, the Mayor of San Francisco London N. Breed presented the Proclamation Charter to the Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco which contained congratulations from the city and local people and declared August 17, 2022, as Indonesian-American Friendship and Heritage Day.

"The raising of the Red and White Flag at the San Francisco City Hall is not only to commemorate Indonesia's independence but also as our pride in serving in the San Francisco work area because of the appreciation and tradition of high respect by the San Francisco Government to the diplomatic corps on duty," Prasetyo Hadi remarked.

Director of the San Francisco Mayor's Office, Mark Chandler who hosted the raising of the Indonesian flag, revealed that Indonesia is a strategic partner of the US in the Asian region, and Indonesia's cooperation with various parties in San Francisco is increasingly diverse and shows the close relationship between the two countries.

"We in San Francisco witness that the cooperative relationship with the Government of Indonesia, including with the Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco is getting closer, not only in the economic field but also in tourism, socio-culture to education," Chandler remarked.

The raising of foreign national flags at San Francisco City Hall is a tradition that has been going on since 2007.

The government of San Francisco always offers foreign representatives in its territory to fly its flag during the national holidays.

The Consulate General in San Francisco invites the entire Indonesian people and diaspora in the US to always maintain the ties of brotherhood, unity, and harmony because all of these are significant assets to move for the progress of the Indonesian nation and state during increasing challenges.
