VIVA – President Joko Widodo responds to the issue of the plan of increase in the price of fuel oil or subsidized fuel of the Pertalite type. According to President Jokowi, the government will consider it very well.
According to President Joko Widodo, the decision to increase fuel prices is something that related to the lives of many people and can have an impact on various other sectors.
"This concerns the lives of many people, so everything must be decided carefully," Joko Widodo remarked after giving his directions to all provincial administrators of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at TMII, East Jakarta on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
President Joko Widodo said, in addition to deciding on the Pertalite price, the government is also thinking about the negative impacts of the decision.
"The impact is calculated not to reduce the people's purchasing power, reduce household consumption," Joko Widodo said.
President Jokowi conveyed that every decision needs to be considered in depth.
"It must also be calculated that increasing inflation can reduce economic growth. All of them, I ask you to calculate correctly before making a decision," Jokowi remarked.
Previously, the coordinating minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, expressed the possibility that President Jokowi will announce an increase in the price of subsidized fuels such as diesel and Pertalite next week.
If this decision is taken by the government, Luhut hopes that the community will be prepared to face the increase in Pertalite and diesel prices. It is because the fuel subsidy, which currently has reached more than Rp502 trillion, is considered to be a very heavy burden on the state budget.
