President Jokowi Visits Grasberg and Launch 5G Mining Technology

VIVA – On the third day of a working visit to Papua Province, September 1, 2022, President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo visits the Grasberg Mine owned by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) in Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency.

Jokowi and Iriana with their entourage are using four-wheeled vehicles to the mine site which is at an altitude of 3,325-4,285 meters above sea level.

After that, President Jokowi will go to the underground mine site at OB 04 to review the control room for controlling heavy equipment with 5G technology. After that, President Jokowi will head to DMLZ underground.

Joko Widodo is the second Indonesian President to visit the Grasberg mine in Papua. The first Indonesian president to come to the Freeport area was President Suharto, who came in 1973.

At that location, President Joko Widodo is scheduled to review places of worship that are underground. The places of worship are the Jami Baabul Munawwar Mosque and the Soteria Oikumene Church.

After that, Jokowi will go to the Tera shop to launch the latest technology in the mining sector, namely 5G mining. 5G mining technology itself is the result of a collaboration between the Telkom Group and PTFI and becomes the first mining in ASEAN to be managed with 5G technology.

While giving a speech during a gathering with PTFI employees on Wednesday night, Jokowi said that he would look at mining management using 5G mining technology.

"This is what I want to see, what it's like to manage a mine with a 5G system, I want to see tomorrow," President Joko Widodo remarked.

In the afternoon, President Joko Widodo and Mrs. Iriana Widodo are scheduled to take off using a Presidential Aircraft RJ-85 to Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku Province, via Timika's Mozes Kilangin International Airport.

Also, accompanying President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana on this working visit were Cabinet Secretary; Pramono Anung, Minister of SOEs; Erick Thohir, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM; Bahlil Lahadalia.
