G20 Countries Support the Policy of Climate Change in Indonesia

VIVA – Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar said that G20 countries appreciate and support Indonesia's climate policies, such as FoLU Net Sink 2030 with the G20 Presidency to strengthen Indonesia's role in handling climate change.

Minister Siti Nurbaya in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday, September 6, 2022, explained that several G20 countries expressed appreciation for efforts to absorb net emissions from the forestry sector and land use or FoLU Net Sink 2030.

As known, FoLU Net Sink 2030 is one of the priority programs for the environment and forestry in Indonesia. This commitment represents the achievement of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the forestry sector and other land uses.

"Many associates from overseas support our steps in the context of climate change. Bettina Hofmann from Germany support and cooperation related to the protection of biodiversity and climate, peat and plastic pollution in the sea," Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar conveyed.

Minister Reveals Significant Way to Address Triple Plenatary Crisis

United States Environmental Administrator, Michael S Regan said that Indonesia and the United States have a long history of environmental issues. The United States expressed an understanding that the FoLU Net Sink designed by Indonesia is a significant note for climate change.

The Minister of Environment and Forestry also said that Indonesia remains consistent in terms of reducing deforestation. Under the leadership of President Joko Widodo, Indonesia has succeeded in simultaneously reducing deforestation which is a form of seriousness in realizing the FoLU Net Sink by 2030.

According to Siti Nurbaya, the G20 meeting which will be held in Bali in mid-November 2022 will be a symbol that Indonesia is establishing itself as a country that cares about and takes part in world climate change.

"This G20 will be history, where apart from Indonesia leading the G20, we also have a program that can be a direction in terms of climate change, and be signed to fulfil the Nationally Determined Contribution which is a national obligation in the global climate change agenda," Siti Nurbaya Bakar remarked.
