VIVA – President Joko Widodo said that Indonesia successfully takes over the Flight Navigation Service Area (FIR) over the Riau and Natuna Islands from Singapore. President said it in a statement regarding the FIR Adjustment Agreement.
"Thanks to the hard work of all parties, we have succeeded in returning the management of air space over the Riau Islands and Natuna to the Republic of Indonesia," Jokowi conveyed in his statement that was broadcast virtually through the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
President Jokowi announced that he had signed a Presidential Regulation on the Ratification of the FIR Agreement between Indonesia and Singapore.
With the signing of the Presidential Regulation on the agreement, the area of ??Indonesia's FIR which is internationally recognized as part of the Jakarta FIR has increased by 249,575 square kilometers.
According to President Jokowi, the FIR adjustment agreement between Indonesia and Singapore is a step forward for international recognition of Indonesia's air space, which at the same time increases the assurance of aviation safety and security.
