VIVA – The National COVID-19 Task Force (SATGAS) conveyed that preparations for the endemic COVID-19 in Indonesia will be arranged in stages in early 2023 by considering the controlled case situation until the end of 2022.

In a talk show entitled Measuring the Relevance of Health Protocols on BNPB Indonesia's Youtube, the Head of the Health Support Sub-Section for the Emergency COVID-19 Task Force, Alexander K. Ginting said that if the situation is controlled from September to the end of the year, then, endemic in Indonesia will be carried out in stages at the beginning of next year.

"We hope, if this September is controlled until the end of the year, then according to the first plan, preparations for the endemic will be arranged in early 2023," Alexander K. Ginting said when he was a speaker at the Talk show on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

Alexander Ginting said that the pandemic situation in Indonesia had experienced a significant decrease in the number of daily cases.

Based on the report of the COVID-19 Task Force, on September 7, 2022, the number of active cases was around 38,000 people or an average of around 3,000 people per day. That number decreased significantly in the last two weeks when it reached 52,078 active cases.

"Indonesia is still in a pandemic situation. People are bored (with the pandemic), but the infection is still ongoing. So, the status of the pandemic is still, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not revoked it either," Alexander remarked.

Alexander also reminded the public to be aware of the incidence of coughs and colds that are currently rife in people.

According to Alexander, the COVID-19 vaccination is still homework that needs to be completed. In addition, public compliance with health protocols for wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands (3M) also still needs to be improved.

The government has again extended the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities through the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) Number 42 of 2022 for the Java-Bali region, and Inmendagri Number 43 of 2022 for areas outside Java-Bali.

In addition, based on input from experts, all regions in Indonesia have PPKM level 1 status, although the positivity rate is still above the WHO standard of five percent of the total population.
