VIVA – Local people in the United States also tourists attended and enlivened the New York Indonesian Festival in New York. Indonesian dance performances, dangdut music, and several culinary delights were present at this event.
From morning to evening day, along Sixty-Eight Street, between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue, New York City has closed on Saturday, September 24, 2022. The atmosphere on this street was like the Senggol market in Indonesia.
The New York Indonesian Festival has the purpose to introduce Indonesian food and culture to local Americans. This event was held by the Indonesian Community in New York City and its surroundings.
Along the road, in front of the Indonesian Consulate General in New York, in Manhattan, ten tents or vendors were set up selling various Indonesian specialties such as gudeg rice, meatballs, siomay, satay, dawet ice, doger ice, and various Indonesian specialties.
A simple stage was set up to perform some Indonesian dances and music, including dangdut.
Not only that, on the sidelines of attending the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi also visited the event. She came with the Indonesian Permanent Envoy to the United Nations, Armanatha Christiawan Nasir, and the staff of the Indonesian Consulate General.
Retno Marsudi was impressed and happy to witness firsthand the variety of Indonesian food and the performance of several dances and songs from Indonesia.
The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs bought and tried Bandung Siomay at one of the vendors. In addition, she also danced while listening to the melodious chanting of a dangdut song by a foreign artist.
The location of this festival is very strategic. Publications from the event committee are also very helpful in supporting the excitement of this event.
The event was held for the first time after the pandemic, and was filled with visitors from the United States, and foreign tourists passing through one of the tourism areas.
