Erick Thohir Ensures 2023 MotoGP Mandalika Circuit Will be Better

VIVA – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, welcomed the arrival of Dorna Sports to discuss preparations for the 2023 MotoGP race which will be held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara next year.
Minister Erick Thohir ensures that the 2023 MotoGP event will be prepared optimally and better in the second season in Indonesia so that it can be more exciting, interesting, and satisfying for many parties.
"I accept the arrival of Dorna Sports as part of our certainty and readiness to be part of the 2023 MotoGP series at the Mandalika Circuit in October," Erick Thohir stated in his statement on Thursday, October 20, 2023.
"Surely, we will prepare the best starting from the asphalt, parking locations, and enlarge the audience stands so that it is much more satisfying to the riders, sponsors, and spectators," Erick Thohir added.

When meeting with the CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta, and Chief Sporting Director, Carlos Ezpeleta, Minister Erick emphasized that Dorna was very satisfied with last year's event, which was able to bring in around 60 thousand spectators.
Because of that to organize sporting events such as MotoGP, Indonesia must continue to improve and increase readiness in its implementation. Thus, this event is not only a motorcycle racing competition but also a tourist destination that is awaited by many parties.
"And many sectors will be lifted, such as the regional economy, MSMEs, hotels, and so on," Erick Thohir remarked.
Therefore, Erick Thohir hopes that the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) as the manager of the Mandalika Circuit is also committed to continuing to improve the readiness of the circuit and its supporting facilities.
Especially the FIM World Superbike Championship will also be held at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit on November 11 to 13, 2022, as the second event will be held at the Circuit.
"Especially after the WSBK, there will be a big event, namely the G20 in Bali. So, we have to think about how the G20 participants from various countries can immediately enjoy the race, as well as tourist destination points so that there will be continuity," Erick Thohir remarked.
