The 2010 World Cup was the 19th edition, held in South Africa. This year's World Cup was the first to be held in an African country.Â
South Africa was selected as the organizer in May 2004, beating Morocco and Egypt in a draw process open only to African countries. The World Cup is held every four years; the previous tournament was held in Germany, while the next tournament will be held in Brazil.

The 2014 World Cup was the 20th edition, held in Brazil. It was the second time Brazil hosted the tournament (after 1950), Brazil became the fifth country to have hosted the FIFA World Cup more than once, after Mexico, Italy, France, and Germany.Â
It was also the first FIFA World Cup to be held in South America since Argentina in 1978. No South American country had previously hosted the FIFA World Cup more than once. For the first time in the World Cup finals, matches were played using goal-line technology.
Germany became the champion after defeating Argentina in the final match with a score of 1-0. While the Netherlands became the third champion after defeating the home team Brazil in the third-place match with a score of 3-0.

The 2018 World Cup was the 21st edition. The tournament was held in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018, after the country was selected as host on December 2, 2010. This edition of the World Cup was the first to be held in Europe since the 2006 edition in Germany.Â
All stadiums except the Central Stadium are located in European Russia, west of the Ural Mountains, to reduce travel time due to the country's size. This was the first World Cup to be held in Eastern Europe and the eleventh time in Europe. For the first time, the tournament took place on two continents - Europe and Asia.
