AMSI and Huawei Synergize on Digital Cyber Media in Indonesia

VIVA – The tech giant of China, Huawei is establishing a strategic partnership with the Indonesian Cyber Media Association (AMSI) to envolve digital media competencies and skills in the field of information and communication technology (TIK) towards the development of a fully connected Indonesia and smart information society.

This synergy was confirmed in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Huawei and AMSI at the Indonesia Digital Conference 2022 in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 22, 2022. 

Through this cooperation, Huawei is going to provide knowledge empowerment around TIK for the media, as well as organizational capacity-building programs for media personnel in the field of technology.

The program includes knowledge-sharing sessions on TIK technology topics such as cloud, AI, 5G, and cybersecurity, as well as visits to Huawei's Innovation Center.

AMSI has more than 410 publisher members operating in 24 provinces across Indonesia and will support several initiatives organized by Huawei, including the 100 thousand digital talents development program, Seeds for the Future, corporate social responsibility, and Huawei's TIK competition.

Director General of Public Information and Communication, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo), Usman Kasong, warmly welcomed the media and industry collaboration as a strategic practice and step to strengthen cyber media in Indonesia to contribute more broadly in the future.

"Indonesia has successfully organized the G20 Summit in Bali. The role of the media in the success of this event is very large, including the role of the media and fellow journalists who are members of AMSI. Collaboration is the keyword for a big digital leap," Usman Kosong said yesterday.

"Therefore, we appreciate the collaboration carried out today between AMSI and Huawei to strengthen the capacity of cyber media in Indonesia. We hope this collaboration can empower cyber media in particular and improve the capabilities of Indonesian human resources in general," he added.

Meanwhile, Vice President of Huawei Asia Pacific Public Affairs and Communications, Jun Zhang praised this collaboration as a historic moment for the development of the digital media industry in Indonesia.

"In the era of digital transformation, the future of the media industry will be closely linked to digitalization capacity. This is why the collaboration between AMSI and Huawei is so important. With Huawei's leading technologies in cloud, AI, and so on, we hope this partnership can help more media to fully maximize the benefits of digital transformation." Jun Zhang explained.

"Together with AMSI, Huawei is confident and ready to establish more collaborations to help develop the digital ecosystem in the media industry," he emphasized.

For more than 22 years, Huawei has been highly committed to supporting the acceleration of digitalization in Indonesia through building TIK infrastructure to connect the unconnected and nurturing digital talent.

Then, AMSI Chairman, Wenseslaus Manggut also praised Huawei's contribution to the development of the online media ecosystem in Indonesia.

"Currently, Indonesia's cyber media ecosystem needs substantial and comprehensive improvements so that it can continue to fulfill its mandate to present quality, responsible, and reliable cyber journalism while continuing to develop healthily and sustainably," Wenseslaus said.

According to Wenseslaus, media is the main foundation for the sustainability of the ecosystem. Support from Huawei will empower Indonesian cyber media to survive and thrive.

"Given that the media is a key cornerstone for ecosystem sustainability, support from global technology leaders such as Huawei in various areas regarding advanced technologies, will empower Indonesian cyber media to survive and thrive, thus contributing to the consolidation of a fully connected and intelligent Indonesian information society," Wenseslaus explained.

Indonesia Digital Conference 2022 carried the theme 'Web 3.0, Opportunities and Challenges for Business Models in the Digital Age' and was attended by more than 1,500 participants who attended online and offline.

Moreover, the purpose of this IDC 2022 event is to build a space for discussion, various ideas, and experiences from stakeholders related to opportunities and challenges in entering the Web 3.0 era. It hopes that the public understanding of the direction of web 3.0 development in Indonesia can increase through the media in the future.
