151 People Still Missing After Cianjur Earthquake

VIVA – The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) still searching for 151 people missing after the Cianjur earthquake on November 21, 2022. The Sar team said the constraints that they are facing are the distribution of affected areas is quite wide and victims’ data changes every time.

"The constraints we face include the wide distribution or coverage of the affected area. In addition, the data on victims can change at any time. However, the SAR team, from Basarnas together with the SAR Potential, continues to carry out search efforts for victims who have not been found," Head of the Public and General Relations Bureau of Basarnas, S. Riyadi said to reporters on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

The West Java earthquake caused 1,083 injuries and displaced 58,362 people. Meanwhile, material losses were recorded at 22,198 building units, with 6,570 severely damaged, 2,071 moderately damaged, and 12,641 lightly damaged.

The earthquake affected 12 sub-districts, namely Cianjur, Karang Tengah, Warung Kondang, Cugenang, Cilaku, Cibeber, Sukaresmi, Bojong Picung, Cikalong Kulon, Sukaluyu, Pacet, and Gekbrong.

"The SAR team in operation is divided into six sectors, respectively the Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Foxtrot teams. The SAR team consists of Basarnas, Indonesian National Army (TNI), Indonesian Police (Polri), and other SAR potential," Riyadi remarked.

Previously, the SAR team was still searching for victims of the Cianjur earthquake. The SAR team was divided into five teams, Alfa, Bravo, Charly, Delta, and Echo. On the second day of operation, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, until 10.40 AM, the SAR team managed to evacuate 13 victims.

It is known that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 struck the southwestern region of Cianjur Regency, West Java Province, on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 1.21 PM in Central Indonesia Time.

According to BMKG, the earthquake was located at coordinates 6.84 South latitude and 107.05 East longitude, around 10 kilometers southwest of Cianjur Regency, at a depth of 10 km.
