VKTR and UNS Cooperation in Battery Technology Development

VIVA – PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas (VKTR) signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Center for Excellence in Science and Technology-University of Electrical Energy Storage Technology (PUI-PT TPEL), Sebelas Maret University (UNS). The signing was carried out by VKTR President Director, Gilarsi W. Setijono and Head of PUI-PT TPEL UNS, Prof. Agus Purwanto, in Surakarta, Central Java, on Thursday, December 1, 2022.
Gilarsi conveyed that this signing is an advanced stage for both parties, in the development of battery technology.
"Starting from nickel processing, recycling, to commercialization of battery products," Gilarsi said on Thursday, December 1, 2022.
This cooperation will be devoted to the development of battery materials, starting from nickel ore into P-CAM (Precursor Cathode Active Material), P-CAM into CAM (Cathode Active Material), CAM into battery cells, to the recycling process of end-of-life batteries.

"In addition, we VKTR together with UNS also continue to strengthen cooperation with PENS (Surabaya State Electronics Polytechnic), in developing batteries from module to pack. Including the development of the battery management system (BMS)," Gilarsi explained.
According to Gilarsi, in the future, the parties are open to expanding this cooperation with other new partners, to support the acceleration of battery technology development in the country. The UNS will receive support from research laboratory facilities in the field of battery technology, funding, equipment, and material components for joint development.

"Meanwhile, VKTR will get researchers, college students, and other resources to deepen research on the agreed scope," Gilarsi remarked.
Gilarsi said that battery technology is still very open to being studied and developed. The limitations of battery technology currently exist in two aspects, namely the performance aspect and the relatively expensive raw material price aspect.
"If these two things can be overcome, we are sure that efforts to develop battery technology will advance rapidly," Gilarsi W. Setijono concluded.
