VIVA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visits and reviews the Tanah Abang Market on Monday to ensure that economic activity in the real sector is running well and the market economy in 2023 can improve. During this visit, Jokowi also greeted and dialogued with traders who had started selling.

"I want to see how the real sector moves because this is a market for products in the regions. If here (Tanah Abang Market) goes down, here it stops, it means that production also stops, also goes down," President Jokowi said on Monday, January 2, 2023.

In addition, President Joko Widodo also wants to ensure that the optimism of the sellers will rise again in 2023, especially since the policy of imposing restrictions on community activities (PPKM) was revoked last December.

"Not only Tanah Abang Market but also 16 Ilir Market in Palembang, Terong Market in Makassar, Beringharjo Market in Yogya, Turi Market in Surabaya, Johar Market in Semarang, New Market in Bandung, Gedebage Market in Bandung, we hope that optimism will appear because PPKM has been revoked," he continued.

The traders at Tanah Abang Market said that the turnover of goods in 2022 began to improve when compared to 2021. He hopes that in 2023 economic activity in the market will also increase, Jokowi said.

"Earlier I asked several traders and they said that in 2022 the turnover was much better than in 2021. We hope that 2023 will also be better than 2022."

He believes that the country's economic growth in 2024 will increase if Indonesia can get through 2022 and 2023 well. President Joko Widodo is also optimistic that Indonesian economic growth in 2023 will be above five percent.

"I am optimistic that in 2023 our economic growth will be above 5 percent, we hope, we pray also in 2023 it can be above 5 percent again," the head of state remarked.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also encouraged traders to enter the market to facilitate trade transactions between producers and consumers, "I think this is a leap into the digital system, digital market, which we hope will facilitate the meeting between producers and consumers, sellers and buyers," he said.

Also accompanying the President during the inspection of Tanah Abang Market were Pj. Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono and Mayor of Central Jakarta Dhany Sukma.
