Men Become the Most Internet Users in Indonesia, APJII Survey Reveals

VIVA – The internet has become one of the necessities for people to communicate, to use social media, for entertainment, education, and business purposes. According to the survey results from the Association of Internet Service Providers in Indonesia (APJII), men are the most internet users in Indonesia.

"We have conducted a survey from January 10-27, 2023 in 38 Indonesian provinces with a total of 8,510 respondents. We see in the gender category; men dominate as internet users with a penetration of 79.32% of the total population. While women are 77.36% of the total population," APJII Chairman, Muhammad Arif said at the Press Conference of Indonesia Internet Penetration Survey 2023 at the APJII Secretariat Office in Jakarta, on Wednesday.

This shows that the use of the Internet is a necessity for everyone, both men and women.

Furthermore, based on the survey results, APJII found that Indonesia's Internet penetration rate throughout 2022-2023 will reach 78.19% so that the number of Indonesians connected to the Internet in 2022-2023 will be 215,626,156 people out of a total population of 275,773,901 people.

When compared to the previous APJII survey, this year's, Indonesian Internet penetration rate has increased by 1.17%.

In conducting the Indonesia Internet Penetration survey in 2023, APJII in collaboration with SRA Consulting, as an independent survey institution, used the Multi-Stage Random Sampling Method with a margin of error of 1.14% and a trust level of 95%.

This comprehensive APJII survey also compares internet penetration in urban and rural classifications and disadvantaged areas where the survey shows that the urban penetration rate is 77.36% of the total population in urban areas and internet penetration in rural areas is 79.79% of the total population in rural areas.

Arif hopes this survey can support the Indonesian government in digital transformation, "This survey is also expected to support the Indonesian government's digital transformation program in supporting the acceleration of internet equality by presenting comprehensive regulations and programs that support internet providers to reach all regions of Indonesia," Arif stated.

Also, it's hoped that the increasing number of internet users in Indonesia will have a positive impact on economic growth, and technological development, and also raise awareness and education among the society in various fields.
