VIVA – Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, erupted three times from Tuesday morning to afternoon.

According to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the first eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred at sahoor time, 04.12 am in local time, with an ash column observed as high as approximately 800 meters from the top of the peak.

Then it happened again at 07.43 am local time with the height of the eruption column was observed at 2,000 meters. The ash column was observed to be black with thick intensity leaning towards the northeast.

This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 65 mm and a duration of approximately 1 minute 58 seconds.

The underwater volcano erupted again at 12.21 pm local time. The height of the eruption column was observed to be approximately 2,500 meters above the peak with a duration of 2 minutes and 26 seconds.

People, tourists, and fishermen are prohibited from doing activities within a 5 kilometers radius of Mount Anak Krakatau, to avoid eruption material. Currently, the volcano that caused the 2018 tsunami is on standby status or at Level III.
