VIVA – If you're tired of the usual weddings on Earth, you can now get married in space because a space travel company can allow you to have a wedding in a place unlike another.

The company, called Space Perspective, is offering couples an unforgettable way to say “I do” putting lovers into orbit using a carbon-neutral balloon with giant windows to make the most of the ultimate view of planet Earth.

According to Jane Poynter, the co-founder of Space Perspective, the waiting list to get married amongst the stars is already light-years long.

“We’ve already had people wanting to be the first marriage in space, so we’ll see who is the first,” Poynter told The Cool Down during an interview.

The company assures its spacecraft, Neptune, offers a truly fantastic experience for newlyweds.

Neptune will take the bride and groom off the ground at 12 mph, making spaceflight essentially safe for anyone who can fly in an Earth-bound aircraft.

According to the website, Spaceship Neptune is lifted into space by the company SpaceBalloon and is fueled by renewable hydrogen, with no rockets and no polluting carbon footprint.

The balloons will carry the Neptune capsule, where couples can sit and enjoy the beauty of Earth from above.

Poynter notes that Neptune remains safe in the SpaceBalloon, which is an important difference from other trips to space offered by other companies.

"Unlike all other spacecraft whereby the crewed compartment separates from one flight system mid-flight and transferred to another flight system, Spaceship Neptune's capsule remains secured to SpaceBalloon during the entire flight from takeoff to landing, creating a smooth, safe, and gentle flight," she explained.

The website says the technology the spacecraft uses has already been "proven", as it has been used for decades by NASA teams and other government agencies to "lift research telescopes and other heavy and sensitive instruments into space".

Space Perspective was founded by two former crew members of Biosphere 2, an Earth systems science research facility located in Arizona, which was originally built to explore the potential of closed ecological systems to support human life during space missions.

Vincent Bachet, development engineer and leader of Space Perspective, added that the Neptune window will be "the largest window flown into space".

Using highly resistant materials and a special anti-UV coating, Space Perspective co-founder and co-CEO Taber MacCallum calls this a "quintessential part of an unforgettable experience."

Couples who want to experience a unique wedding destination can sign up for a waiting list on the Space Perspective website by the end of 2024.

However, you may need to re-think that wedding budget, as the price per seat starts at $125,000 or IDR 1.8 billion.
