Jokowi Receives US-ABC Visit, Discuss Electric Vehicle Ecosystem

VIVA – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a delegation from the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java Province on Thursday.
Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani stated that the meeting discussed various cooperation in investment and trade relations between the United States and Indonesia.
"First, how Indonesia can improve the ecosystem of the electric car industry, Indonesia does have large mineral resources," Minister Mulyani said after the meeting.
Second, how Indonesia can also get facilities to enter the electric vehicle market in the United States and how we can increase our role and ability to attract investment, she added.

Furthermore, the minister said, President Jokowi said that the government will continue to carry out economic transformation, sustainable energy, and the development of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN).
"The President said that Indonesia will continue to carry out economic transformation both in the downstream sector and strengthen the ecosystem of the electric industry (electric vehicle) and also in terms of sustainable energy including energy transition, and also to continue to support the development of the National Capital City," the Minister said.
In addition, Minister Mulyani said that the President and several companies in the energy industry discussed the issue of climate change and the importance of carbon capture technology. The Indonesian Government will also comply with commitments in dealing with climate change.
"Now, the concern is about climate change where carbon capture technology is important. The government will continue to support policies for energy independence and security in Indonesia and at the same time also comply with climate change commitments in Indonesia," she explained.
Moreover, regarding the digital economy, the Minister said that the Indonesian government will continue to improve communication on trade patterns, starting from the service side to the security side.
"We will continue to improve communication on how trade patterns where the digital economy is increasingly dominating, need to be balanced on the one hand with good services and faster services, but on the other hand also security and integrity," she said.
Furthermore, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia as a country at the center of geopolitical upheaval needs to carry out global collaboration and cooperation with all parties.
"This is following our goal to continue to improve our economy, our economic independence, and at the same time cooperation among various countries in the world," the Minister concluded.
