Indonesian Government Sets Three Days Eid Al-Adha Holidays

Jakarta – The government has set Eid al-Adha on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Then, for joint leave on June 28 and 30. So, it means, Indonesian people will have three days' holidays.

This was determined by the Indonesian government through a Joint Decree of the Minister of Religion, Minister of Manpower, and Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPAN-RB). 

In the decision, the government changed the 2023 joint leave so that it became the Appendix to the Joint Decree of the Minister of Religion, Minister of Manpower, and Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Number 1066 of 2022, Number 3 of 2022, Number 3 of 2022 concerning National Holidays and Joint Leave in 2023.

The changes to joint leave were made to increase community mobility as well as economic growth and tourism on Eid al-Adha and Joint Leave.

"In order to increase community mobility, economic growth, and tourism as well as to provide opportunities for children to be with their parents during the school holiday on Eid al-Adha in 2023, it is necessary to make changes to the 2023 joint leave," according to a statement in the government decree on Tuesday. 

In the decree, the stipulation of Eid al-Adha Day 2023 and Joint Leave officially takes effect on the date set by the government.

"This joint decree shall come into force on the date has set," 

As previously reported, the addition of collective leave days related to Eid al-Adha 1444 H or 2023, is said to be just waiting for President Jokowi's decision. There is a possibility that the holiday could be three days. 

Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas said that previously there was indeed a proposal for joint leave on June 28 and June 30, 2023. 

He also informed that the plan to add joint leave had been discussed in a joint meeting with the Ministry of State Secretariat.

"There's a proposal in addition to the national holiday on 29 (June), on 28 joint leave is proposed. Then on the 30th (June), a joint leave is also proposed," the minister said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Monday. 

Minister Anas emphasized that the plan has been discussed by the government, and is currently still awaiting presidential approval. Because there is a process in determining these two dates to be joint leave.
