Nouhaila Benzina Becomes First Player to Wear Hijab at World Cup

Australia – A defender of the Moroccan national football team named Nouhaila Benzina becomes the first woman in history to wear a hijab during the World Cup.
She wore it in the Women's World Cup match against the South Korean national team on Sunday which Morocco won 1-0 at the Hindmarsh stadium, Australia on Sunday.
The wearing of headwear is allowed by FIFA if the reason is religious. This was authorized by the World Football Federation in 2014.
Nouhaila Benzina wore a white hijab during the match. Moreover, Benzina made it to the round of 16 for the first time for the Moroccan women's national team at the 2023 World Cup.
Nouhaila Benzina had an outstanding performance at the 2023 Women's World Cup. She also came close to scoring a goal.
She became the first female player to wear a hijab in the Women's World Cup tournament. As information, FIFA had previously banned the use of hijab on health and safety grounds.
