Tangerang – At GIIAS 2023, the Gaikindo International Automotive Conference (GIAC) brings the theme Towards Net Zero Emission Now. Gaikindo sees this as a great opportunity for the automotive industry in Indonesia to play a more active role in preventing environmental damage.

Rizwan Alamsjah, Chairman III and Chief Exhibition Organizer of GAIKINDO said that this year's GIIAS carries the theme Future Now, which is intended to showcase Green Future Technology at the exhibition, which is being held for the 30th time. 

"In line with the GIIAS theme, Towards Net Zero Emission Now was chosen as the theme for this year's conference, which will present renowned speakers in the automotive industry," Rizwan Alamsjah stated at GIAC on Tuesday. at ICE BSD, Tangerang.

Alamsjah added that the Indonesian government has committed to reducing carbon emissions as stated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo at COP21 in Paris and COP26 in Glasgow. 

"To support emission reduction efforts in Indonesia, the automotive sector has a significant contribution in achieving the ultimate goal of Net Zero Emission. Therefore, it requires concrete cooperation between stakeholders, government policies, principal support, infrastructure and energy availability."

The 17th GIAC was also attended by the Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment as well as the President Commissioner of Pertamina, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or called as Ahok. 

In his speech, Ahok expressed his pride to the automotive industry for achieving exports in 2022, "We are very proud of the automotive industry for achieving exports of nearly 500,000 and only importing 80,000 of the 1.2 million vehicles produced." 

Ahok invited the automotive industry to work together to make Indonesia bigger. 

"On this occasion, let us together with the automotive industry do our job to make this country bigger," Ahok said. 

Furthermore, from the automotive industry in Indonesia, Director of Production Logistic Control & Technical Directorate, Government Affairs Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), Widjanarko confirmed that Toyota is ready with various solutions to realize the low carbon emission program. 

"The most concrete example that's currently being done is not only the production of various vehicles with various platforms, but also the utilization of energy that uses minimal energy from power plants. Instead, we use natural flow patterns such as gravity, so we can save considerable energy in our factory," Widjanarko explained. 

One of the highlights of the GIIAS 2023 is environmentally-friendly vehicles, dominated by electric vehicles, are becoming more widely available. If in previous years there were only a few types of electric vehicles in Indonesia, this time there are more types.
