Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police Prepare Security for 43rd ASEAN Summit

Jakarta – The 43rd ASEAN Summit scheduled to take place in Jakarta from September 5 to 7, 2023, has become the primary focus of attention for the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri). They have diligently worked to ensure the smooth and secure execution of the event.
"It is crucial for us to maintain the smoothness and security of the 43rd ASEAN High-Level Conference in Jakarta. This is a significant responsibility, and we have prepared stringent strategies," said Admiral TNI Erwin S. Aldedharma, Commander of TNI's Joint Defense Regional Command I at FMB9 event.
The complexity of this event presents one of the major challenges. Jakarta, as the capital of Indonesia, has a larger and more diverse population compared to Labuan Bajo, the previous venue for the KTT. The denser transportation infrastructure also needs to be taken into account.
Erwin emphasizes the importance of understanding the needs and expectations of each participating country. "We must comprehend the situation of each country, their demands, and their expectations during their stay in Jakarta," he said.
Security measures must also consider the various governmental and non-governmental organizations that will be present at the event. Erwin underscores that the primary goal is to reassure the world and the guests that Jakarta and Indonesia are safe and conducive to the event.
To achieve this goal, TNI and Polri have coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) from the outset. The information they have gathered about the situation and expectations of participating countries forms the basis for security planning.
Meanwhile, Polri has also prepared a centralized operation plan involving various task forces, including the Preemptive Task Force, Preventive Task Force, and Action Task Force, among others.
"We have prepared a centralized operation plan for Polri, with the assistance of various parties, including TNI and intelligence agencies," stated Assistant Operations for the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Pol Drs. Verdianto I. Bitticaca.
Security for the 43rd ASEAN High-Level Conference will be focused on several key locations, such as the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) and the hotels where delegates will be staying.
TNI and Polri have also readied various equipment, including emergency vehicles such as ambulances and firefighting equipment, to address various threats, including terrorism and cyberattacks.
