Jokowi Reveals Several Efforts to Handle Rising World Temperature

India – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed several efforts that can be made to handle the rising world temperature in the next five years.

"Our Earth is sick, last July the world temperature reached its highest point and is predicted to continue to rise in the next five years. It will be difficult to contain it unless the world stem it massively and radically," President Jokowi said in the first session of the G20 India Summit held at Bharat Mandapam, IECC, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India, on Saturday. 

Therefore, the Head of State said that accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy is one of the efforts that can be made.

"Until now, the implementation of emission reduction is still very limited," the President remarked. 

"The funding commitments of developed countries are still limited to rhetoric and on paper, be it climate finance of US$ 100 billion per year, or loss and damage funding facilities,"  the President added.

Furthermore, President Widodo stated that currently developing countries need assistance in the field of green technology and investment to accelerate emission reduction in the world.

"We, developing countries, really want to accelerate emission reduction, but we need support for technology transfer and green investment,"

In addition, the President also said that funding for accelerating emission reduction is also considered important. Cooperation between the government and the private sector must continue because it's considered to be a big carrier of change in reducing emissions.

"Last year in Bali, Indonesia initiated the G20 Bali Global Blended Finance Alliance, the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) scheme must be expanded and enlarged," the President said.

Moreover, the President said that global standards are needed, such as in terms of classifying economic and business activities to prevent greenwashing practices.
