Bakrie: Indonesia Plays Significant Role in Reducing Carbon Emissions

Singapore – The President Director and CEO of Bakrie & Brothers (BNBR), Anindya Novyan Bakrie said Indonesia has a significant role in energy transition and climate change prevention along with efforts to accelerate energy transition and electrification in Indonesia, also ASEAN.
"We believe that efforts to reduce carbon emissions will not succeed without Indonesia's involvement," Anindya Bakrie said as one of the speakers at the forum 'Guitting Coal Turkey: Accelerating the Transition to Clean Energy', in Singapore on Wednesday.
Bakrie also emphasized its investment commitment to electrification and renewable energy. Moreover, rising commodity prices allow BNBR to utilize these resources in various aspects.

"We are fully dedicated to increasing the shift towards electrification and renewable energy," he said.
"We believe that Indonesia is an ideal starting point for this transformation, but we also recognize the importance of thinking globally," he added.
Bakrie also mentioned: "This approach is in line with BNBR's vision to make a major contribution to broader efforts, in combating climate change and advancing clean energy both locally and globally.
Indonesia is well positioned because underground there are important materials such as nickel, copper, zinc and tin. While above ground, Indonesia can process them using solar, wind, and geothermal or hydro power, according to Bakrie.
Facing the future, Indonesia is poised to become an important player not only in the eastern region, but also in the western context. This is particularly relevant given the supply chain disruptions experienced during the COVID-19 era.
Indonesia also aims to take a proactive role in ensuring its contribution to the mainstream narrative on reducing carbon emissions, strengthening commitments to sustainable practices, and global efforts to combat climate change.
"I believe this transition can happen quickly. For example, we formed a new consortium last year, in December 2022. This consortium focuses on supplying battery materials to markets in the western region, using environmentally friendly practices that are in line with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles," Bakrie explained.
The response from markets in the western region has been very positive. Indonesia is very well positioned in this context.
"In addition, it help stabilize the supply chain, but it also has the potential to improve the welfare of its population through a green industrial revolution. This effort can serve as an example of how a harmonized approach can benefit all parties involved," Bakrie disclosed.
