France – The Indonesian men's single badminton player, Jonatan Christie successfully defeated Li Shi Feng from China 16-21, 21-15, 21-14 and secured the title of BWF French Open 2023 in Rennes on Sunday. 

The match was fierce, Jonatan brought out his best despite trailing 7-11 at the interval of the first game. After the break, Jonatan tried to catch up Li Shi Feng. 

Despite trying his best, Jonatan lost the first game with a score of 16-21.

The second game, Jonatan tried to catch up and there was hope. However, the action from Li Shi Feng made it difficult for Jonatan's resistance so that he was left behind at the interval 9-11.

During the match, Jonatan continued to try to catch up and follow Li Shi Feng's aggressive game, so that Jonathan managed to win in the second game with 21-15. 

Continuing in the second game, Jonathan managed to excel at the interval 11-10. And Jonatan's spirit returned with a 21-14 win in the third game.

"Thanks God, because this is my first title at the Super 750 level that I've been waiting for. I've been in the final several times but haven't been able to win," said Jonatan Christie in a statement, as quoted on PBSI's official site. 

"It wasn't easy, I was a bit tense at the beginning of the match. I made a lot of unforced errors. In the second game I made improvements by playing more neatly and trying to make my opponent run a lot," he added.

Jonatan also said: "After the match, I was speechless. In the last two to three tournaments, I didn't play optimally and then many people doubted me, but then again, God's plan we never know,"
