Minister Prabowo Subianto Calls for Commitment to World Peace

Jakarta – Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto as Chair of the 17th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) in 2023 led ASEAN Defense Ministers to meet with US Defense Minister Llyod J. Austin III at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), on Wednesday.
Minister Prabowo Subianto explained that this meeting was a form of commitment to the strategic partnership that has been established between ASEAN countries and the United States (US).

"A partnership built on trust, common values, and commitment to peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region," Minister Subianto remarked.Â
The Minister further explained that each country must ensure security stability in the region and respect each other's national interests.
Minister Subianto also mentioned: "Today's meeting between ASEAN and the US is a valuable opportunity to enhance cooperation and mutual understanding of the evolving security landscape in the region,"Â
"The challenges we face today are diverse and complex. They range from traditional threats to emerging non-traditional threats, such as cyber threats, transnational crime, and humanitarian crises," the Minister continued.Â

To address these challenges, Prabowo continued, ASEAN and its dialogue partners, including the United States, must continue to work together and promote peace and security in the region.
"This is an opportunity to explore the potential for cooperation in other fields, which can also increase the capacity of ASEAN countries in facing the increasing threats in the Indo-Pacific region,"
As information, the 17th ADMM discussed several prominent defense and security issues such as geopolitical and geostrategic dynamics in the regional and global context, defense cooperation within the ASEAN framework, as well as cooperation between ASEAN and Countries.Â
The 17th ASEAN Defense Ministerial Meeting (ADMM) was attended by delegates from nine ASEAN-friendly countries.Â
Among them are Brunei Darussalam Defense Minister Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yossuf, Cambodian Defense Minister HE General Tea Seiha, Laos Defense Minister General Chansamone Chanyalath, Malaysian Defense Minister YB Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Philippine Defense Minister Atty. Gen. Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr,Â
Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Singapore Defense Minister Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Thailand Defense Minister Sutin Klangsang, Vietnam Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang, Timor Leste Defense Minister Donaciano Do Rosario Da Costa Gomes, and ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn.
