Brazil – Prosecutors are seeking a nine-year prison sentence for Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman last year, a Spanish court said on Thursday.
Alves to face trial over allegations he assaulted the woman in a night club in Barcelona on Dec. 30. He was indicted by an investigative judge in August and the court said this month there was enough evidence to open a trial. A date for the hearings was not yet set.
The former Barcelona defender has denied any wrongdoing, claiming he had consensual sex with the accuser, as quoted from AP News site.

Prosecutors also asked Alves to pay compensation of 150 thousand euros or around IDR 2.5 billion to the victim, and be banned from having contact with her for the next 10 years.
They also want Alves to remain supervised for a decade after serving his prison sentence.
If found guilty, Alves will be prohibited from doing any work with minors for 10 years after his sentence, in accordance with Spanish law.

Under Spain's new sexual consent law, sexual assault charges cover a wide range of crimes from online harassment and groping to rape, each with different penalties. Rape cases are punishable by a maximum of 15 years.
Alves has been in pre-trial detention since January, when he was arrested following a preliminary investigation by authorities.
All of Alves' bail requests have been rejected as the court considers him a flight risk. The player has offered to surrender his passport and wear a tracking device pending the court's decision.
Prosecutors this week again opposed the latest freedom request filed by Alves' lawyers.
