BYD Introduces Two Advanced Technologies in Its Electric Cars

Not only e-platform 3.0, but BYD also has another flagship technology, namely the 8-in-1 powertrain, which includes BMS, VCU (Vehicle Control Unit), inverter, PDU (Power Distribution Unit), OBC (On-Board Charger) combined into one unit, and gearbox/e-motor in another unit. Component separation is done for all devices except the gearbox and e-motor.
Mikami stated that the deep integration of BYD's 8-in-1 powertrain can provide a system efficiency of 89 percent and covers driving and braking functions, with advanced powertrain domain controllers for quick response and full utilization of electric motors.
"There are two advantages of the 8-in-1 powertrain, starting from efficient size with ample space as a home for components and cost aspects. Because BYD manufactures all components in-house, production costs can be more affordable and beneficial to customers," Mikami concluded.
