Kalimantan – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated Samarinda Seberang Terminal in Samarinda City, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday. In his remarks, the President invited the public to use mass transportation.
"If we see traffic jams everywhere, including in Samarinda, Balikpapan, and Banjarmasin, we must encourage mass transportation and public transportation so that the use of private vehicles continues to decrease," the President said in a statement.
President Widodo remarked the congestion in Jakarta that has occurred for years even though Jakarta already has various mass transportation facilities such as electric railways (KRL), Integrated Railways (LRT), Integrated Moda Raya Terpadu (MRT), and TransJakarta.
"Therefore, cities other than Jakarta must prepare themselves for the importance of public transportation, the importance of mass transportation,"
The Head of State also admitted that he was pleased with the construction of Samarinda Seberang Terminal. According to the President, the terminal which was previously rundown, dirty, and disorganized has now been transformed into a clean, neat, and organized terminal.
"We hope this will encourage people to start using public transportation in droves," the President remarked.
"From here you can go to Balikpapan, from here you can go to Banjarmasin, I think it would be very good if you use public transportation and not use private transportation, this is to once again reduce congestion in all the cities that we have," President Jokowi concluded.
