BYD Urges the Use of Electric-based Public Transportation in Indonesia

Shenzen – The electric vehicle company from China, Build Your Dreams (BYD) has expressed readiness to urge the use of public transportation such as electric bus in Indonesia.

Eagle Zhou, the President Director of BYD Motor Indonesia, stated that they are continuing discussions with stakeholders regarding the development plan for electric buses in the Indonesian market.

He added that a major concern underlying this ambition is the worsening air quality in Jakarta, which is also influenced by motor vehicle emissions.

"We highly urge for the use of electric-based public transportation in Jakarta. We have seen air pollution worsen, especially in Jakarta last year," Zhou said in Shenzhen, China on Thursday.

Zhou revealed that their company has conducted specific research and development to introduce electric buses with higher standards for Indonesia.

"BYD has even conducted research specifically to introduce electric buses with higher standards for the Indonesian market," he explained.

Zhiu further said that to accelerate the realization of electric-based public transportation, they have collaborated with various local parties.

One is VKTR Mobility Technology (VKTR). According to Zhou, VKTR is a local partner to expand into the realm of electric buses in Indonesia.

"VKTR is our local partner to enter the electric bus market in Indonesia," Zhou remarked.

As more information, VKTR has currently produced several units of electric buses in Completely Knocked Down (CKD) form. The type of bus used is the BYD brand, specifically the D9 high floor model.

"We hope that this year, the electrification of public transportation can be realized more quickly so that air pollution in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, can improve rapidly," Zhou concluded.
