Jokowi Hopes Completion of Paralympic Training Center by Year's End

Karanganyar – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) did the groundbreaking ceremony for the Paralympic Training Center in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Friday.

The Head of State conveyed that his government have planned this training center construction for long time to enhance the performance of Indonesian Paralympic athletes.

"I hope this training center for Paralympic athletes can be utilized to its fullest potential for training, motivation, and to encourage all of us to train diligently and achieve better results," the President stated.

President Jokowi informed that the Paralympic athlete training center is being built on an 8-hectare land with a budget of IDR409 billion.

The construction of this fully equipped, internationally standardized training center is targeted to be completed this year.

"The Paralympic Training Center in Karanganyar will consist of sports facilities, dormitories, and an athletic field. The sports complex will include a main swimming pool, a recovery pool, areas for boccia, shooting, table tennis, badminton, and multipurpose rooms," the President explained.

With its proximity to Mount Lawu and its cool climate, it's hoped that this training center will become an ideal place for athletes to train.

President Jokowi also expressed hope that the achievements of Indonesian athletes, especially in the ASEAN Para Games and Asian Paralympics, will continue to improve.

"I'm pleased that we always win first place in the SEA Games, while in the ASEAN Paralympic Games, we were ranked 6th or 8th, but recently, we achieve 6th place, which is very commendable. If in Southeast Asia, we always top the medal tally," the President conveyed. 

"I hope the achievements will continue to improve and serve as inspiration, bringing honor to our nation and country," he expressed.

Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto, Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana, Acting Regent of Karanganyar Timotius Suryadi, Chairman of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia Senny Marbun, and President's Special Staff Angkie Yudistia also accompanied the President on this occasion.
