Indonesian Government to Provide Incentives for VKTR Electric Bus

Jakarta – Electric commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses are currently the main focus in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. The government is considering providing incentives for the use of these environmentally friendly commercial vehicles.

This information was confirmed by the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, during his visit to the special exhibition for commercial vehicles, Gaikindo Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (GIICOMVEC) 2024.

Minister Kartasasmita explained that they will coordinate with the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Gaikindo) to discuss the details of this plan.

"We are still monitoring electric trucks together with Gaikindo. We will discuss together how to accelerate the development of the automotive industry based on trucks with incentive policies," he said at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, on Saturday.

The Minister stated that providing incentives for electric trucks has been planned. The exact timing of when this program will be implemented is just a matter of time.

"I can confirm that incentives for electric trucks have been planned and will be provided by us," 

In a similar context, Minister Kartasasmita also mentioned one company that has the potential to receive incentives for electric commercial vehicles, namely VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas (VKTR) owned by the Bakrie Group.

He mentioned that VKTR already has plans to qualify for incentives by meeting the minimum 40 percent Domestic Content Level (TKDN) for electric buses.

"The electric bus project is underway, for example, the one owned by Bakrie in Magelang. It will be operational soon," he added.

As information, VKTR is currently starting the construction of the first Completely Knock Down (CKD) commercial electric vehicle facility in Indonesia in Magelang, Central Java.

This step is part of their contribution to the country and the EV industry in Indonesia in accelerating the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) program in Indonesia.
