Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) revealed that a total of 3.37 million hectares of oil palm plantations are predicted inside forest area.

KLHK Secretary General Bambang Hendroyono stated that from the suspected oil palm plantation areas within forest zones, clarification and re-identification by the government are necessary.

"The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs/National Land Agency have declared the need for clarification, inventory, and re-identification of the 3.37 million hectares of oil palm within forest areas," he said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Thus, with the enactment of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation (UUCK) in the field of Environment and Forestry, aligning with the acceleration of oil palm within forest areas.

"In line with the UUCK, the Minister of Environment and Forestry has established the Satlak Wasdal (Task Force for Law Enforcement and Supervision Implementation of UUCK). Specifically focusing on expediting the resolution of oil palm issues within forest areas," Hendroyono remarked.

He explained that the formation of Satlak Wasdal (Implementation, Supervision, and Control Unit) is to coordinate with various relevant parties to address the issues of oil palm plantations located in forest areas.

"Therefore, these tasks must determine the direction of future national palm oil policies to eliminate overlaps and uncertainties. Forest areas must ensure the productivity of palm oil, especially those cultivated by smallholders and private entities," Hendroyono concluded.
