Freeport Boss Meets Jokowi to Discuss Mining Contract Extension

Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a visit from officials of mining company Freeport McMoran at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Freeport McMoran Inc Chairman & CEO Richard Adkerson, Freeport McMoran CFO and PT Freeport Indonesia Board of Commissioners Kathleen Quirk, and Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas.
"Together with Richard Adkerson and Kathleen Quirk, I met with the President to convey the latest developments in the upstream mining situation," Wenas said at the Presidential Palace Complex.
According to him, the report submitted to President Jokowi was related to the progress of Freeport's smelter construction in Gresik, East Java, which has reached more than 92 percent.
"With the hope that it can be completed in May and immediately operate in June this year. And, it will be in full production in 2024," Wenas said.
In addition, the meeting also discussed the extension of Freeport Indonesia's mining license or Special Mining Business License (IUPK) when meeting with President Jokowi.
However, he said the matter of licensing was not discussed in detail with President Jokowi.
