Halal Certification Can Boost Muslim-friendly Tourism

Jakarta – The Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH) of the Indonesian Religion Ministry ensured that the implementation of mandatory halal certification is an effective boost in efforts to develop Muslim-friendly tourism in Indonesia.

"The implementation of mandatory halal certification starting October 18, 2024, will be an effective boost in efforts to develop halal tourism or Muslim-friendly tourism in Indonesia," said Head of BPJPH Ministry of Religion Muhammad Aqil Irham in a statement in Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Irham stated that currently more than 4.2 million products have been certified halal, especially food or beverage products which are one of the important things in the halal tourism sector.

To accelerate halal certification as well as strengthen Muslim-friendly tourism, BPJPH and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy have also coordinated to collaborate in accelerating halal certification, Irham continued.

"We have also held a Forum Group Discussion with the theme 'Opportunities and Challenges for Developing an Indonesian Muslim-Friendly Tourism Industry' which was held by the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency (BSKLN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Jakarta on Tuesday,"

He further said that this assistance would be in synergy with regional governments, village officials, halal product process assistants (PPH), tourism awareness groups, and also related stakeholders which was planned to be implemented in April 2024.

Irham added that the efforts BPJPH encourages the development of PRM to also carry out the development of halal fashion in Indonesia through the launch of Indonesia Global Halal Fashion on March 28 2024 at the Indonesia Fashion Week 2024 in Jakarta.

"We, together with Halal Fabrics and professional designers, have also just launched Indonesia Global Halal Fashion at Indonesia Fashion Week 2024," Irham conveyed.

He also added: "In fact, to encourage the promotion of our halal fashion internationally, we are collaborating with 9 designers for roadshows in five countries to introduce halal fashion Indonesia must penetrate the global market,"

BPJPH collaboration with ministries and institutions, as well as other stakeholders, was also very necessary to welcome Mandatory Halal in October 2024, Irham stated.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yayan GH Mulyana said that his party was committed to synergy and collaboration in developing a tourism industry Muslim friendly in Indonesia.

According to Mulyana, Indonesia has cultural riches and potential that can be used as a Muslim-friendly tourist destination for Muslim tourists from all parts of the world.

"So, collaboration and synergy from the government are needed in formulating policies related to the Muslim-friendly tourism industry," Mulyana concluded.
