Jakarta – Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, is aiming to complete the digitization of the tin management system by June 2024 to prevent corruption.
"We hope in the next two months, the system can be completed," the Minister said in an Instagram post on Thursday.
After the digitization of tin management is complete, there will be transparency in tracing the origin of the tin, tax payment, and tracking royalty payments as well, he stated.
Minister Pandjaitan also aims to expand digitization to the management of nickel, palm oil, and other natural resource products in the near future.

"This tin corruption case is indeed a lesson for all of us. We are actually a little bit late on this digitalization," the Minister added.
In line with this, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has launched the SIMBARA platform to improve governance in the mineral and coal sectors.
Minister Pandjaitan informed that nickel and tin will also be integrated into SIMBARA in 2024.
"We are perfecting the SIMBARA platform to integrate all mining data in Indonesia,"
The Minister stated this following the alleged corruption case in the tin trading system of PT Timah from 2015 to 2022 with potential state losses of IDR 271 trillion. The case is currently being handled by the Attorney General's Office.
Sixteen people have been named suspects in the case, including former top executives at the state tin company. Investigators have also named one suspect for obstruction of the investigation.
