This app works for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, replacing the existing Keychain system with a simpler and more user-friendly solution.

At WWDC 2024, Apple also introduced iOS 18 and macOS 15. One of the most anticipated features is the new Passwords app.

The app is designed to replace the currently confusing password storage approach with something more unified and efficient. If you're familiar with apps like 1Password or LastPass, you'll recognize the concept but with Apple's distinctive touch.

Apple devices already support password creation and storage, logins, and stored card information. However, the way it works differs across devices.

For instance, on iOS, passwords are stored in the Settings app, whereas on Mac, they're in Safari. The new Passwords app will integrate everything in one place, making it easier for users to manage their passwords across all Apple devices.

According to Bloomberg, the app is based on the existing Keychain system but with a more user-friendly interface.

Some key features highlighted include login and password storage. The app will store website and app logins, Wifi network passwords, and Passkeys, which allow users to log into websites using Touch ID or Face ID without traditional passwords.

Next, there's integration with other apps. It will send the appropriate login details to apps and Safari whenever needed. There’s also broad compatibility – it will be available not only for iOS and macOS but will also work with Vision Pro and Windows PCs.

Additionally, the app will double as an authentication app, similar to Google Authenticator.

This new Passwords app is expected to simplify users' online lives. By integrating all password management functions in one place, users will no longer be confused about where to find their passwords across various apps.

Moreover, the app will be very useful for those who use alternative apps or browsers besides Apple’s own.

It’s still unclear whether the Passwords app will also store payment card details and other autofill information, but many are hoping this feature will be included.

This app could be the solution to many everyday problems users face, particularly in terms of password management.

With all its features and advantages, the new Passwords app could become one of the most useful innovations Apple has introduced in recent years
