President Jokowi Calls for Exploration of New Export Market

Penajam Paser Utara, VIVA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) highlighted concerns about weakening domestic demand. It may caused by various factors, such as high levels of raw material imports due to fluctuations in the rupiah, and the influx of imported products into Indonesia.
The President emphasized to his cabinet ministers the importance of increasing the purchase of domestic products and the use of local raw materials to protect the country's industries.
"Perhaps the demand from exports or from abroad has weakened. This is happening due to supply chain disruptions or the economic slowdown among our main trading partners," the head of state said during a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the Garuda Palace, IKN, East Kalimantan, on Monday (Aug 12).
He continued, "Therefore, we must explore non-traditional markets and seek new potential markets for our exports."
Earlier, President Jokowi also instructed his cabinet ministers to investigate the root causes of the decline in the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), which contracted in July 2024.
"I want the main causes to be investigated and immediately anticipated because this follows an expansive period of 34 consecutive months," he concluded.
