Jokowi Confident in Smooth Transition to New Government

Jakarta, VIVA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the ongoing transition to the new government proceeded smoothly ahead of the inauguration of the president-elect and vice president-elect later this month.
Speaking after attending the Indonesian Defense Forces' (TNI's) 79th-anniversary commemoration ceremony on Saturday (Oct 5), the head of state said the government is ensuring thorough implementation of the government transition.

"I'm confident that the process to establish agencies and pass laws required before the inauguration ceremony will be completed soon," the President stated.
"We should ensure the smoothness of government continuity and the inauguration ceremony on October 20," he added.
Regarding possible consultations with President-elect Prabowo Subianto to form his upcoming cabinet, Jokowi stated that Prabowo has complete authority to decide on the composition of the new government.
"The formation of the new cabinet is completely within the prerogatives of the new president," the president remarked.
During the final meeting of his Onward Indonesia Cabinet in Nusantara's Garuda Palace last September, President Jokowi had called on the cabinet ministers to ensure the continuity of ongoing programs.
He also urged the ministers to carry out incomplete tasks and duties in the last month of their tenure.
The president specifically called on the ministers to maintain the people's purchasing power, the current economic growth, and security and order stability, as quoted from Antara site.
President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who emerged victorious in the 2024 Presidential Election in February, will be inaugurated on October 20.
