Officials’ Arrests Spark Public Anger, Pertamina Responds on Fuel Quality

Jakarta, VIVA – Responding to public concerns and media reports about officials' arrested because of corruption, Pertamina Patra Niaga, the Subholding Commercial & Trading of Pertamina, stated that there is no fuel "mixing" involving Pertamax.
The company assured that Pertamax quality complies with government-mandated specifications, maintaining a Research Octane Number (RON) of 92.
“All fuel products entering Pertamina’s terminals are finished products that already meet their respective RON specifications—Pertalite has RON 90, and Pertamax has RON 92. From the initial receipt at our terminals, the fuel distributed to the public follows government regulations,” said Heppy Wulansari, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, on Tuesday (Feb 25).
Wulansari further clarified that the process carried out at Pertamina’s fuel terminals involves injecting color dyes to differentiate products for easy recognition by consumers.
Additionally, an additive injection process is applied to enhance Pertamax’s performance.
“This is not an adulteration process or an attempt to alter the RON. Consumers can trust the quality of Pertamax without concern,” she emphasized.

Pertamina Patra Niaga enforces rigorous procedures and oversight in conducting Quality Control (QC) to ensure fuel integrity. Furthermore, Pertamina’s fuel distribution is closely monitored by the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas).
“We strictly adhere to standard operating procedures, and our fuel distribution is supervised by BPH Migas,” Wulansari added.
She also highlighted Pertamina’s commitment to good corporate governance (GCG) to ensure the availability of high-quality fuel for consumers.
Meanwhile, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, VP of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to maintaining fuel quality.
“Consumers should not worry—every Pertamina product undergoes stringent testing to ensure top-tier quality before reaching the market,” he said.
