BI Adjusts Rupiah Exchange Booking System for Smoother Transactions

Jakarta, VIVA – Bank Indonesia (BI) has adjusted the booking system for rupiah exchange services during the fourth period through the PINTAR application.
This adjustment comes in response to frequent errors in the application when processing transactions.
BI Deputy Governor Doni Primanto Joewono stated that the adjustment aims to prevent traffic congestion, as most people tend to exchange money on Saturdays and Sundays.
“I’m announcing this here to prevent traffic congestion, which usually happens on Saturdays and Sundays. For this fourth week, we are allowing the first phase on Saturday exclusively for Java to avoid competition. Then, on March 23, Sunday, it will be for areas outside Java,” Joewono said on Wednesday (March 19).
The first phase, scheduled for Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 9 AM to 6 PM, will be available only at 1,505 exchange locations across Java.

The second phase, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, starting at 9 AM will cater to 1,043 exchange locations outside Java.
Joewono further noted that as of March 17, 2025, the total exchanged money for Eid celebrations had reached IDR 67.1 trillion, approximately 37% of the total allocation of IDR 180.9 trillion.
“No need to worry. Usually, the demand spikes in the fourth week after the holiday allowance (THR) is paid,” Joewono said.
This exchange service is being conducted in collaboration with banks to ensure an even distribution of cash.
“We already have 378,523 exchangers. This year has been remarkable, and we have increased the number of locations accordingly," he remarked.
He added, "The first week had around 100 exchange points, followed by 2,331 locations in the third week, and 2,512 in the fourth week. This is all done in partnership with banks."
