Putin Welcomes Indonesia's Growing Role in Global Affairs

St. Petensburg, VIVA – Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his huge support for closer cooperation between Indonesia and Russia across multiple sectors.
He also emphasized Indonesia’s importance on the global stage and voiced optimism about Indonesia’s participation in the BRICS group.
“Indonesia is a respected and influential country in the international arena. I'm confident, it will add great value to BRICS and make a significant contribution to its activities and mechanisms,” the president said on Thursday (June 19).

During the meeting, President Prabowo and President Putin held in-depth discussions on bilateral and international issues, adopted a cooperation declaration, and signed several key documents.
President Putin also praised the substantial growth in trade between the two nations.
“I want to emphasize that Indonesia is one of Russia’s top trading partners in Southeast Asia. Last year, our trade volume reached 4.3 billion US dollars. In the first four months of this year, trade has already grown by 40 percent,” president Putin stated.
In the energy sector, Russia expressed readiness to expand energy supplies to Indonesia. On the people-to-people front, cultural and educational ties are also being strengthened.
“Russian language education and training centers have been opened in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta and on the island of Bali. We are also cooperating in staff training, with more than 500 Indonesians currently studying in Russia,” the Russian president concluded.
