Rupiah Strengthens After Trump Delays Strike on Iran, Boosting Peace Hopes

Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian rupiah strengthened against the US dollar in spot trading on Friday morning (June 20). The rupiah appreciated by 32 points, or 0.20 percent, to IDR 16,374 per US dollar.
According to the latest Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) from Thursday afternoon, the reference rate stood at IDR 16,378 per US dollar.
Lukman Leong, an analyst at Doo Financial Futures, projected that the rupiah would strengthen against the US dollar today, driven by hopes for a peaceful resolution to the Middle East conflict.

"The rupiah is expected to strengthen against the US dollar on hopes for peace after Trump delayed a US attack on Iran for two weeks, raising optimism for a peace agreement," Leong said on Friday (June 20).
For today, he forecasted the rupiah to move within the range of IDR 16,300 to IDR 16,450 per US dollar.
Meanwhile, currency market observer Ibrahim Assuaibi offered a different view, predicting the rupiah would end the day weaker.
"The rupiah may fluctuate but is likely to close weaker in the range of IDR 16,400 to IDR 16,460," Assuabi stated.
