VIVAnews - Murdoch University is to award an Honorary Professorship to Mr. Primo Alui Joelianto, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Australia. To mark the appointment, Ambassador Joelianto will give a public address on Indonesia’s Foreign Policy and Indonesia-Australia Bilateral Relations at Murdoch on 21 July 2011.

"The symbolic award is in recognition of the Ambassador's commitment to Australian-Indonesian relations and his support of the University's work in Indonesian teaching and research," said Professor Gary Martin, Vice Chancellor of Murdoch University, in his statement today to VIVAnews.

According to him, the appointment of Honorary Professor is only offered rarely. We regard it as a measure of our respect for the recipient, and a recognition of their role and contribution – past, present and future – to the advancement of the University in a particular field – in this case Indonesian studies.

“Indonesia is a key area of interest for Murdoch. Our Asia Research Centre is an international leader in the study of East and South East Asia and is engaged in a number of research projects focused on Indonesia," said Professor Martin.

Ambassador Joelianto is a distinguished diplomat, having served previously in the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Director-General for Asia Pacific and Africa Affairs, and as Director both for East Asia and Pacific Affairs and for Middle East Affairs.
