VIVAnews - Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Andi Mattalatta, revealed the finding of alleged corruption case at his department. The case was about the disparity of Non-Tax State Revenue on Visa On Arrival issuance worth Rp 3 billion.
“The evidence was found at the Ngurah Rai airport,” Mattalatta said at the Justice and Human Rights Department in Jakarta on Monday, July 6.
According to him, the finding was the result of the investigation carried out by the Supreme Audit Agency.
“It was during the period of October 2008 and May 2009”, he said.
The allegation was filed by the Head of Denpasar Immigration Office.
“The suspicion arisen after the e-office was implemented,” Mattalatta said.
Earlier, the system was used manually so such things could not be detected. He also said that the same case also occurred at the Soekarno-Hatta airport.
Visa On Arrival are issued by the immigration office in two types. The first type can be used for a week-stay. “They cost US$10”, Mattalatta said. The second type, which cost US$25, are valid until 30 days. According to the Director General of Immigration Office, Basyir Ahmad Barmawir, the corruption was committed at the Immigration Checkpoint.
Tourists who have bought the visa voucher must hand it in to the checkpoint. “There, the officials will issue the ID card based on the visa voucher given,” he said. Most of them buy the US$ 10 voucher. “But, most of the ID cards issued are the ones that cost US$ 25,” he said. “This is a wrongdoing,” he added.
Currently, the case is still being probed into.
“We’re still waiting for the results from the Supreme Audit Agency”, Mattalatta said.
Until now, he went on, he only received reports from the auditors. “The Auditing Agency hasn’t issued the official results,” he said.
Furthermore, the Justice and Human Rights Department will keep performing preventive actions and prosecutions.
The preventive actions will determine whether the Visa On Arrival will still be issued in two types or one. “This hasn’t been decided yet. We don’t want the mechanism to disrupt the services”, he said.
Regarding the prosecutions, Mattalatta said punishments will be imposed to officials who are proven to be guilty.
“We have to keep looking into the case to figure out about the suspects”, he said.
The Minister also said his team had received the names of the alleged suspects.
