VIVAnews - The government of South Jakarta is patching up the commercial area Blok M in an attempt to make it world-class culinary tourism center. The changes will be applied early next year, according to Head of South Jakarta City Council’s Tourism Agency, AZ Harahap.

“Visitors will be able to choose between European, Asian and Indonesian foods,” Harahap said in Jakarta on Sunday, December 27.

He also said the area, which was famous back in the 80s, will be restored to its initial condition when it was firstly built. “There will be spots to hang out, just like when it was opened for the first time”.

The decision to make Blok M a culinary tourism center, Harahap added, was made by considering the place’s strategic location. There has also been a bus terminal serving for various destinations in the city. Mobile street traders have also been evicted.

South Jakarta Mayor, Syahrul Effendi said there were two places visited by domestic and international tourists when it comes to culinary tourism, Blok M and Kemang. “We’ll continuously develop the two areas,” he said.

The development includes providing comfortable parking spaces and security for visitors.

Effendi also said Blok M has been a shopping destination since long. The place has also become the center of culinary tourism because there have been a lot of restaurants established in the area.
