Difficult for Old Parties to Get 100 Seats

VIVAnews - It is estimated that top political parties will not be capable of gaining 100 House members in the House of Representatives (DPR).

"Because people's confidence over old political parties have decreased, especially after seeing that corruption occurs in DPR and it involves top political parties," said Executive Head of Reform Democratic Party (PDP)'s Collective Board Roy BB Janis after meeting Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Monday, Dec 15.

The decline in the expected number of seats obtained by old parties, according to Janis, is due to the emergence of new political parties in the 2009 Elections. These underdog parties, said Janis, may be a serious matter for old parties. "The new parties may represented by many of their members [at the House of Representatives]," said Janis.

Janis said that PDP has not yet decided which party it will ask for a coalition with. He said that the issue will be discussed after the legislative elections is held in April 2009.
